River House’s wine list features over 2,500 different labels from the world’s major wine regions in a variety of formats, with an emphasis on benchmark wines and notable emerging wineries. Our sommeliers work closely with the culinary team to develop wine pairings for changing seasonal selections on the menu.

PJ Myers

Certified Sommelier

With an extensive background in the food and beverage industry, PJ Myers brings his passion for food-and-wine pairings and a talent for guest engagement to his role as sommelier at Montage Palmetto Bluff’s newly re-opened signature dining experience, River House. Joining the resort in 2022, Myers manages a wine list that encompasses more than 2,500 different labels with time honored and emerging selections represented from all of the world’s major wine regions. He also works closely with the culinary team to develop wine pairings for seasonal offerings and Lowcountry classics.

Having experience at dining venues spanning from South Carolina to Hawaii, Myers brings more than a decade of expertise to River House. Prior to joining Montage Palmetto Bluff, he spent nearly 10 years as beverage director of Michael Anthony’s on Hilton Head Island, S.C., where he was responsible for a $2.5 million beverage program across multiple concepts and restaurants. The demanding position saw Myers working in both the front and back of the house, including hiring and training staff on fine dining beverage service, and developing a craft cocktail menu and various wine lists, including one focused on “private reserve” wines that earned a coveted Wine Spectator award.

Prior to that, Myers spent three years with The Lowrey Group Restaurants on Hilton Head Island, starting as a server and bartender and finishing as bar manager with responsibilities ranging from staff training and product sourcing to fashioning specialty cocktails and developing a Four Diamond wine list. Other positions dotting his career include turns as a server at Longhi’s and Fred’s Mexican Café in Wailea and Kihei, Hawaii, respectively, and bar manager at Tavern on the Lake in Reston, Va.

Myers has done much to heighten his knowledge of wine and spirits throughout his career, including earning certification as a Certified Sommelier in the Master Court of Sommeliers and a Level 3 in the Wine & Spirit Education Trust. He has also earned certification as an Italian Wine Professional from Italian Wine Central, and is certified as a specialist in both wine and spirits.

A native of Reston, VA, Myers’ fascination with wine and spirits was inspired by Julia Childs and Anthony Bordain. Now residing in Bluffton, Myers enjoys rescuing and rehabilitating dogs. His ideal evening is a night at home with a good glass of wine and a dog (or a few) in his lap.
